The Zimbabwe Anti- Corruption Commission (ZACC) has said the irregularities cited in the latest
Auditor General’s report are historical issues which no longer exist.
The Auditor General’s Office said ZACC had failed to furnish it with requisite documents to validate expenditure amounting to millions of United States dollars.
According to the Auditor General, ZACC failed to provide evidence in the form of invoices or supplier statements for goods and services that it received.
Zacc spokesperson, John Makamure ,acknowledged that between 2012 and 2019, the commission’s books were not in order due to legacy issues.
“The Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission takes note of the comments raised in the Auditor General Mildred Chiri’s latest report stating that the Commission failed to furnish her office with supporting
documentation for payment of goods and services, and other substantial disbursements.
“However, Zacc acknowledges that its books for the period 2012 – 2019 were not in order owing to legacy issues, which are now an issue of the past,” he said.
He said the current Zacc administration had worked tirelessly to enhance professionalism and transparency in its conduct and execution of its mandate.
“The commission has introduced a new culture of conducting business guided by robust standard operating procedures, regulatory frameworks and internal policies and procedure manuals to guide its operations. The Government has in turn responded positively to this new culture of doing business at Zacc by providing the Commission with substantial budget allocations that have enhanced the commission’s operations,” he said.
Makamure said Zacc had submitted its annual report and financial statement for 2020 to Parliament while the 2021 annual report was almost complete.
“Without casting aspersions on previous Commissions that did a sterling job in setting up Zacc in its infancy and ensuring that there was an operational structure, the Commission wishes to reassure Zimbabweans that it is doing everything in its power to correct the previous wrongs blighting its current work,” he said.
