RioZim is incorporated in Zimbabwe and is listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.

The company boasts of a wide array of operations and is currently involved, both directly and indirectly, in all of Zimbabwe’s Minerals including Gold, Nickel, Copper, Cobalt, PGMs, Chrome, Diamonds, and Coal.

The group is divided into five distinct business units; RioGold, RioBase Metals, RioChrome, RioDiamonds, and RioEnergy.

RioZim currently operates the Renco Gold mine in the southeast of Zimbabwe, the Cam & Motor gold mine in Kadoma, the Maranatha ferrochrome refinery in Kadoma, and the Empress Nickel Refinery near the city of Kadoma in Central Zimbabwe.

The group also owns 50 percent of Sengwa Colliery Pty Ltd in Gokwe North, holds a 22 percent interest in Murowa Diamonds Pvt Ltd, and is moving into chrome mining and smelting industry.

Manit Shah is the current Rio Zim chief executive officer. Manit has been part of RioZim for over seven years and has played an integral part in assisting the teams at RioZim Limited and RZM Murowa (Private) Limited through their successful turnarounds.

Manit started his career in Assurance and Auditing, moved to Investment Banking, and then turned to Strategy, Innovation, and Turnaround Management. He currently sits on the Board as chief executive officer of RioZim Limited. Prior to this appointment, he was chief operations officer of the Group.

He holds a Master’s degree in Finance having attended the London Metropolitan Business School (LMBS) and the London School of Economics. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in India (ICAI) and the ISACA in the USA. Manit is also an alumnus of the Harvard Business School.

RioZim was incorporated on August 29, 1956 as Rio Tinto Southern Rhodesia Ltd. It was initially set up to prove and mine the Empress Nickel deposit in Kadoma, the first of Rio Tinto plc’s global ventures.

Since then RioZim has engaged in a number of different ventures, across a wide variety of industries.

After 47 years RioZim can look back on a very rich history, characterised by resilience, persistence, and innovation.

From its first days as a small nickel and copper mining company in Kadoma, RioZim has grown into a large, diverse Zimbabwean company that operates across different regions and industries.
