The new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) policy to be unveiled soon by Government, will guide the sector and ensure connectivity for every Zimbabwean, according to Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services minister, Jenfan Muswere.
Muswere said this during the recently held Liquid Intelligent Technologies Zimbabwe Golf Day.
Speaking at Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate during a prize giving cocktail at the end of the event, Muswere said Government’s core business is to connect the unconnected.
He said the process of connecting the people was currently underway through state enterprises in partnership with the private sector.
ICT is identified as an economic enabler with digitalisation seen propelling production and services.
“We have taken several steps towards achieving the National Vision 2030 utilising a stakeholders approach. The first step in the digital economy we are aiming for was to review the ICT policy and to do this we brought in all our stakeholders, including Liquid Intelligent Technologies and others such as Tel One, Net One, Econet and the Computer Association of Zimbabwe to contribute.
“His Excellency the President will soon launch the policy and we look forward to that so that it guides the technological advancement and utilization of ICTs to develop our country,” said Muswere.
He said Government has also crafted a Smart Zimbabwe Masterplan with pillars such as Smart Agriculture, Smart Health, Smart Education.
“As a result we are constructing, developing, equipping and connecting institutions from primary, secondary to institutions of higher learning for a digitally astute population so we have young people and older people who are ICT enthusiasts and experts across the country,” he said.
Muswere also commended Liquid Intelligent Technologies for providing internet connectivity across the country especially in the health and education sectors, saying this dovetails into the President’s vision that Zimbabweans come together to build their country.
Regional chief executive officer (CEO) for Central African Region, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Wellington Makamure challenged industry players at the event to harness internet connectivity for their business growth saying no business can thrive in today’s digital environment without connectivity.
In attendance at the Golf Day were top executives from organisations such as Beta Holdings, Seedco, Lancet, TSL and Ministry departments.
