Inter and AC Milan are in talks over a new £630 million stadium 15km away from their iconic San Siro home.

Representatives from both clubs recently met the owners of the proposed site, Falck Group, to discuss the logistics of potentially building their new ground on the land.

The site is situated in Sesto San Giovanni, in the north-west of the city, and would give both sides more space to build additional facilities alongside the stadium.

Inter and AC had hoped to rebuild their new stadium on their existing San Siro plot and include office space and hotels as part of the renovation but saw their plans turned down.

Their current home is on council owned land meaning any decisions regarding additional buildings and facilities have to be approved by local authorities, but a privately owned Sesto San Giovanni plot would give the two clubs control.

Both teams are in a hurry to begin work on a new stadium and have targeted the start of the 2022-23 season as the date they wish to move into their new 60 000-seater home.

“The fundamental thing is the urgency of equipping clubs with a stadium to become competitive again,” said AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni.

“It is fundamental, it will take three years. It needs to start immediately. This will be a fundamental topic in the next discussions.”

Inter Milan chief executive Alessandro Antonello revealed earlier this summer that both clubs were pushing forward with plans for a new stadium as a matter of urgency.

“We’ve been working on this project with Milan and we believe that a stadium we both own would be crucial for the our growth.

“Inter and Milan have been working on the San Siro project for several months now. We still have work to do, but the time is ripe.” — Dailymail.
