THE all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee made its way into the Zimbabwean market last Friday after official launch by ZIMOCO, a renowned car distributor locally.

Grand Cherokee’s newest iteration has been designed and engineered to deliver SUV excellence, coming with new architecture, new exterior design as well a new interior with world-class craftsmanship.

This version of the Grand Cherokee has been described as the most technologically advanced, 4×4-capable, and luxurious Jeep to date.

In addition to the mechanical advances, the 2022 Grand Cherokee consisting of the Limited, Overland and Summit models, offer a fuel-efficient and refined engine performance for any driving situation.

The vehicle is coming with an all-aluminum 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 engine, rated at 293 horsepower with a towing capacity of up to 2,812 kg and is lauded for its power and refinement, making it inherently smooth running.

A seven – time winner of the 10 best engines and propulsion systems award, the Pentastar V-6 engine is compact, with features such as exhaust manifolds integrated into the cylinder heads.

Paired to the engine is the eight-speed automatic transmission, which enhances fuel economy and delivers smooth gear changes which help in keeping the engine revolutions per minute (rpm) in the ideal range whether cruising on the highway or exploring off-road trails.

The all-new Grand Cherokee possesses the trademark off-road capability accompanied by three 4×4 systems which include the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II as well as rear electronic limited slip-differential (eLSD) which enables the vehicle to drive over terrain and road conditions than a conventional axle cannot.

All three systems are equipped with an active transfer case to improve traction by moving rotating force to work with the wheel with the most grip which allows for improved traction over rocks and rough terrain.

The car has more than 110 advanced safety and security features, including Active Driving Assist with hands-on automated driving, including a 360-degree surround view, and night vision cameras.

The new offering was designed with enhanced levels of comfort and spaciousness, including in the cargo hold.

This technologically refined Jeep Grand Cherokee is exclusively available from ZIMOCO, the only official distributor of Jeep in Zimbabwe with the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited priced at US$ 99,200 while the Overland is pegged at US$ 127,000 and the Summit at US$132,000 all-inclusive of duty and VAT, licensing and registration, which includes a service plan for two years.

At the launch event, Zimoco Business Development Manager, Manfred Chaniwa, said the car delivers unmatched capability and composed driving dynamics.

He said the latest version has been designed and engineered to deliver even more of what has made this Jeep SUV a true global icon in the premium SUV segment.

“This fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee builds on its legacy as the most awarded SUV ever, bringing an all-new architecture, all-new exterior design, and an all-new interior with world-class craftsmanship and first-to-market technologies to the global full-size SUV segment. As the most capable SUV brand, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will be the most technologically advanced and capable 4×4 yet,” said Chaniwa.

Engineered with Quadra-Lift air suspension the car delivers up to 28, 7 cm of ground clearance and 61 cm of water fording, the system automatically adjusts the shock tuning to changing road conditions for enhanced comfort, stability, and control.

It also has a Selec-Terrain traction management system, which allows the driver to choose the on- or off-road setting for optimum 4×4 performance.

This feature electronically coordinates 4×4 torque split, braking and handling, steering and suspension systems, throttle control, transmission shift, transfer case, traction control, stability control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and steering feel.

If the vehicle senses that road conditions do not require all-wheel drive, the front-axle disconnect automatically places the Grand Cherokee in two-wheel drive, reducing drag on the driveline and improving fuel economy while the  Four-wheel drive automatically re-engages when the vehicle senses it is needed.

Built on more than 80 years of legendary heritage, Jeep is the authentic SUV brand that brings capability and versatility through its Jeep vehicle range which consists of the Cherokee, Compass, Gladiator, Renegade, and Wrangler models.
